Athena is run by an independent firm of specialist insurance managers – Tindall Riley & Co Limited – which provides services for the benefit of both insurers and insureds. Those services include underwriting, claims handling, distribution and risk management / loss prevention, together with financial, administrative and regulatory management.
Tindall Riley is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and has a history dating back to 1855, when it first started managing the Britannia Steam Ship Insurance Association, a ship owners’ mutual – or “P&I Club” – which it still runs today. In addition to Britannia, it also manages two further mutuals, The Griffin Insurance Association Limited (insurance brokers’ PI) and The Wren Insurance Association Limited (architects’ PI), as well as three MGAs: Athena (Cyber & Data Privacy insurance), Carina (P&I insurance for small ships), and Libra (solicitors’ PI for large law firms).
